Where can you go in your RV in Ontario this summer? The question is really where can’t you go! There’s nowhere that the open Ontario roads and highways can’t take you this summer. But, while it’s always fun to set out and see where the road takes you, you may want to start thinking about some destinations now. Due to new COVID-related restrictions, such as capacity limits, campsites and attractions are booking fast for the summer of 2021. As well, now that Ontario is safely reopening, most people are ready to go RVing and seek adventure after a long year of lockdown. Luckily Hiemstra can help you get your RV road-ready and give you some ideas on where to go this summer in Ontario.
Ontario: Yours to Discover
Whether you’re looking for a true roughing it experience, a sight-seeing adventure, or some family fun, Ontario has it. The province is truly yours to discover.
Algonquin Park
Don’t let the summer pass you by without visiting the oldest provincial park in Canada, Algonquin Provincial Park. There are numerous hiking trails, a visitor and education centre, and plenty of lakes for canoeing. You will probably see a moose! The park welcomes RV enthusiasts, couples, and families, and has many sites that are suitable for almost all types and sizes of RVs. You’ll also have access to comfort stations, sanitation facilities, flush toilets, and showers on certain campsites.
Super-Secret Side Stops: On your way to Algonquin, stop at Webers on highway 11 for a delicious charcoal barbecued burger. While you’re camping, take a trip into the town of Whitney, Ontario for some ice cream. And if you’re looking for a real adventure, check out the Bonnechere Caves in Eganville, Ontario.

The Big Nickel
For the sightseers out there, consider taking a trip to the Big Nickel this summer. It’s located in Greater Sudbury, Ontario, so there’s no shortage of excellent RV facilities on the way, and nearby. For those looking to make the trip to Sudbury fun for the whole family, you’re in luck. The Big Nickel isn’t just a big nickel in the middle of nowhere. It’s located on the site of Dynamic Earth, an interactive science museum. And while you’re there, don’t forget to tour the nickel mine!
Super-secret Side Stops: Be sure to check out the French River, about an hour before Sudbury if you’re coming from Toronto. There’s a beautiful trail, and you can enjoy a picnic lunch. But the best part is the large suspension bridge. Cross it for a real thrill! If you prefer nets to bridges, consider a stop in Parry Sound for a visit to the Bobby Orr Hall of Fame.

Fanshawe Conservation Area
You don’t have to go way up north to enjoy some exceptional camping and Ontario nature. Keep it local and take the RV down the road to London’s own Fanshawe Conservation Area. This is a great campground for a quick weekend jaunt in the RV, or for families with young ones looking to test out the RV before taking it on a longer adventure. Fanshawe Conservation Area has many amenities, including a playground for kids. This local RV campground is a hidden gem in the big city, and it fills up fast, so book ahead if you’re considering an adventure in London, Ontario.
Super-secret Side Stops: Some may call it cheating, but there’s a Tim Hortons just down the road from the main entrance of the conservation area. Just hop in your car and you’re minutes away from that familiar Canadian brew. Or, if you’re thinking about a full breakfast, consider Johnny’s, the small diner that serves all-day breakfast, just minutes north on Fanshawe Park Road.

Hot tubs, heated pools, horseshoe pitches, and that’s just for the adults! For kids, there’s a splash pad, play parks, waterslides, mini-golf…and more! Stay overnight or book a whole season.
Super-secret Side Stops: The area around Our Ponderosa is known for its large sand dunes. Climb to the top and race down but be careful not to stumble. If you’re looking for a view, Enjoy a stunning sunset on Ipperwash Beach or at Kettle Point. Top off the day with a slice of Pizza from Port Franks mainstay Grog’s Pub and Grill. And of course, when you RV in Lambton Shores, you’re only minutes away from the world-famous shopping and beach at Grand Bend, Ontario.

Super-secret Side Stops: The Port Bruce peer offers breathtaking views. Grab a hotdog or an ice-cream cone, play at the playground, and enjoy the sound of crashing waves. There is sometimes live music, entertainment, and other events under the peer pavilion too.
